Oh, my! In all the time i have been on this site, I didn't realise there was a page on Black Dogs!
I was particularly surprised to see that the Cerberean Black Dogs are included, because in Yarm in Yorkshire England, where I'm from, we have a legend of a Cerberean Black Dog! It is called a Barghest. It has two heads, is jet black, and its eyes glow either red or an eerie, unearthly green. There is another Black Dog legend near Boggart Hole Clough a ways away from my old home, that is said to be as large as a horse and has red eyes and is black, but it's said that it breaths fire, as well. I'm not as familiar with that legend as I am with the Cerberean Black Dog in Yorkshire, but I've heard a fair bit about it. Let me see if I can scare up some info on the Yorkshire Black Dog. Black dogs are not overly large in nature. Most often confused with barghests,cereberan dogs and dires and hellhounds. Black dogs are often an average sized dog with deep black eyes or an amber to burgundy color of eyes. No sunlight shines on coat and they cast no shadow. Black dogs are indeed an abyssal dog, use common sense when approaching one. Semi intelligent in nature some can communicate telepathically with their owner or you. They can and most times do possess a demon entity ( messenger) or they are to carry out an evil intention. If you are not the target, judge rather or not to approach one and take it home. No harm will come to you and most times the dog will leave to continue its message .

I heard that somewhere, there's a black ghost dog. If you see him once, that's good luck. If you see him twice, that's bad luck. And if you see him a third . . . you die. . .
Too bad I can't remember where it is . . .

these are realy called hellhounds and are invisible to the huamn eye these dogs are the ones ho come to settle deals meda with demos they kill you and steal your soul and bring it back to hell for the hellhound's owner

For a series of months, I had dreams where a black dog was there in many different forms (species of dog). Some saved my life, and a couple seemed to be guarding places that I would be walking towards, and it would then scare me away.
