REDCAPS

Say, does anyone know much about REDCAPS?(And NO I don't mean that guy that parks your car!) From what I do know, they're a species of goblin (I think) that dyes their caps in blood, hence the name redcap. I think they're from Scotland. Wikipedia sucks when it comes to most fairy folklore, they're all over the place on the subject, mixing legends and stuff. Can't seem to find any real solid info about them, except Brian Froud and Alan Lee's book of Fairies, but the info they had was rather vague. For instance, Fairies are supposed to be adverse to iron, yet Redcaps WEAR IRON BOOTS!?!!! Do you find this valuable?
