I can give you some history to crossroads.

Crossroads are one of many haunted locales which are recognised in superstition. The reason given for this is because ghosts are very simple beings. To elaborate, they cannot comprehend much more than a straight line or a turn. So when they reach a crossroads (or, hell forbid, a maze) then they become disorientated. This allows their spectral presense to be detected and the reason why crossroads are considered haunted.

So given the paranormal activity found there, as well as its significance in witch mythology, then it wouldn't be far-fetched to assume demonic activities can take place at a crossroads. Though that's the same as saying a mass murder site or a ghost ship could also attract demons. Speculation mostly.
