These are Yokai that don't fit into any of the other classes. They include:-
- Abura-sumashi - A smug potato-headed goblin-like creature, who drinks oil. It surprises people on the mountain pass, the spirit of a human who stole lamp oil in life.
- Ami-kiri - A very strange creature described as a serpentine spirit with a segmented exoskeleton, two pincers and a bird-billed face. It floats through sliding doors and cuts mosquito nets and other nets hung out to dry, nothing more, nothing less.
- Ashi-magari - An apparition that appears at night at a person's feet. It is described as soft like a kitten or a ball of wool and eventually impedes the movement of the person it moves around the ankles of. Some people think this is not a separate entity at all but a Tanuki trick.
- Betobeto-san - An apparition that only exists in the sounds of footsteps it makes. It will follow people on dark nights, haunting them with it's echoing steps. Should the pursued stop at the side of the walkway and say "Betobeto-san please go on ahead." then the footsteps will sound no more.
- Buruburu - A ghost of fear that lurks in graveyards and forests in the form of a shaking old man or woman, sometimes one-eyed. The buruburu attaches itself to the back of its victim, causing a chill to run up and down the spine. The victim then dies of fright.
- Enenra- An apparition composed of smoke. It is said to reside in bonfires and, when it emerges, take on the form of a human. Only the "pure of heart" able to see it.
- Kama-Itachi - Click for further information.
- Kami-kiri - Another strange looking Yokai that may be closely related to the Ami-kiri. It cuts the hair off at the roots of people who are sleeping. If ever it attacks a person that is a warning that they intend to marry a supernatural creature in disguise.
- Konaki-jiji (Konakijii) - A Konakijii is the spirit of a baby who has been left to die. The Konakijii lures people out to woods or mountain passes with the sound of its crying, but when people get close they see that the baby has the face of an old man. If they pick the baby up it is impossible to put down and suddenly becomes so heavy that it crushes unsuspecting victims to death.
- Nurikabe - A being that delights in nothing more than to block the way of travelers. It takes the form of a large wall, but one that is capable of repositioning itself should its victim choose to take another direction. The wall seems to stretch endlessly either side and any attempt to scale it will result in the nurikabe falling and crushing its victim. The only way to escape is to tap on the bottom of the wall, often with a stick. This will cause the nurikabe to vanish.
