"<giggles> If you only read 'The Amulet Of Smarkand" then you only read one book, you only read 1/3 of The Bartimaeus Trilogy, that's a shame. #2-The Golem's Eye & #3 Ptolemy's Gate were very good. I jokingly called the entire trilogy 'the thinking literature fan's Harry Potter'-that appeals to children & adults alike.

But perhaps that's just because I'm a fan of his style of mix of Political Intrigue, Espionage, Terry Pratchet like dark humor & the fact that it wasn't a gumdrops & rainbows sort of mindless bit of fluff.

I was also keen on the storeys, because I got to do a meet & greet with the author Jonathan Stroud for each book & he was one of the best speakers I've ever had the pleasure of seeing & suggest that experience to everyone.

(I suggest meet & greets with authors in general, support your favorite authors)"
Little known fact the author started his career doing childrens illustrated ancient history books, which is what helped him figure out his ground work for Bartimaeus-who's very appropriate for this site-being that he's a Djinn.

Mr. Stroud doesn't shirk his responsibility & keeps true to a Djinn's original form, & doesn't make him cute & cuddly-no Disney treatment here. Bartimaeus loathes humans etc..

<shrugs> I liked the Trilogy quite a bit.

"Houdini did it in two & a half minutes," Nathaniel Demerest purrs to the straightjacketed Johnny Valentine in a USD as he calmly walked up the steps into Beaumont's party.

Gaaragirl1996, it's not an argument when someone doesn't share your same opinion. People frequently have differences of opinion.

You make it sound as if someone, said they didn't like Cornelia Funke's "Dragon Rider". No one said that at all. 'You' brought up Stroud's work, since I was a big fan of it, I thought I'd mention why I found it such a good series.

Funke & Stroud have different styles of writing, it doesn't make either better. Both stories have great mytharcs, they just appeal to different target fanbases. Having read both, & owning personally autographed copies of each.

I can say I found Mr. Strouds meet & greets more engaging. Of both audiences, thier participation & the questions that were asked at both events, Mr. Stroud's events were more informative & had more children, teens, young & older adults gathered. Ms. Funke had more children & young teens gathered.
