Melissa
Aug 25 2008, 9:20 AM EDT My name is melissa, and I'm proud of it. When Kronus's wife tricked him into swallowing a stone, she hid her son Zeus and several nymphs took care of her. One was named Melissa. When Kronus discovered she had been helping protects the son that was to defeat him, he was furious and turned her into a worm. After, when Zeus ruled along with his siblings, he pitied the kind nymph and turned her into a queen bee. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Aug 26 2008, 4:56 AM EDT This is interesting. I knew of the story of Kronos's wife hiding her child Zeus from his father. But, the legend of the nymph being turned to a worm is new to me. I will look this up further. Do you find this valuable? |

Aug 27 2008, 2:45 PM EDT It may have been something else instead of a worm, but it definitely wasn't a pleasant creature. (I'm the same person.) I'll look it up. Do you find this valuable? |

RE: Melissa
Aug 27 2008, 2:49 PM EDT In Greek mythology Melissa is the name of one of the nymphs who helped save Zeus from his father, Cronus. She hid him in the hills and fed him milk from Amalthea and honey. When Cronus discovered this, he turned her into a worm. After Zeus came into power, he changed her into a queen bee, not being able to change her from an insect form. ^That's from Wikipedia. Aug 29 2008, 10:17 AM EDT We will have to add this to the main page as well. Definitely good reading that. Anything can have the potential to be real, otherwise why & how did the myth / legend exist in the first place? Do you find this valuable? |
