Wolf Therians??
Jun 21 2010, 9:03 AM EDT
Maybe perhaps an off shoot of werewolves are wolf therians. Therians are people who have the SPIRIT of an animal (it could be any animal even mythical ones but those are called Otherkin) It depends on the therian how much it can 'shift' but as I have found out, only a small percent of the population and do a full physical shift. You know, into a wolf and everything. But it is rather commonplace to see a therian (for the full full moon cycle ((which are 3 days))) get rather acute hearing, a sharper sense of smell, and yearning to run, feed, and/or mate, and they grow faster. A big pointer to spot a shifting therian is looking at their feet. If they start walking on their toes without thinking about it is a kick start to a shift. Your safety isn't at stake unless they are in a full mental shift (all of the human mind processes are stopped. They are basically a wolf with a human body) but then unless you are absolutely stupid- they probably aren't going to attack you. It's like dealing with an animals- if you don't go around its territory, offspring, or antagonize them, you're fine most of the time. You aren't going to be stalked on most likely, but if a small child is in the area it might be a good idea to get the kid out of there. But your safety is at stake if it is fully physically shifted. IT IS AN ANIMAL at that point. What to do: Don't let fear get to you. DON'T LET IT SHOW. Back away slowly, and don't show your back. Don't look at it in they eye and don't run. If you know someone who can fully shift- you probably know more therians. Go tell them, and they will know what to do. But I noticed how similar the werewolf and the wolf therian can be...Any ihput? 3 out of 3 found this valuable. Do you?

What sort of input? There are more similarities between these wolf therians and werewolves than there are differences.

I'd suppose an offshoot of the traditionally recognised version of a werewolf. A different genus, or sub-genus.

It was Greek for 'wild animal' or 'beast'.Though it enjoys modern usage referring to the sub-class 'Theria', which includes most mammals. That would suggest more mammalian like transformations, but as you know therianthorpes tend to include things like the 'were-crocodile' in their ranks. Do you find this valuable? |

Sooo... Sirius Black from Harry Potter was a Wolf Therian? I'm confused. I heard of some human beings (mostly inuit Shaman) that turn into creatures like bears, wolves, caribou, eagels and even whales.Do you find this valuable? |

I suppose he kinda was. A therianthorpe who was a lycanthorpe. Add suitable prefixes for different animal transformation.

a werewolf has several wolflike features mixed into a human body. this therian you speak of makes a full change from human to wolf, not unlke the Animagi from HarryPotter

:P That was my kinda.Though I'm starting to get confused on the issue if Hollywood brought about the human/wolf features or if that came about earlier. Do you find this valuable? |

it was early. the original werewolf was a man with a condition that made hair grow all over his body. he was bitten by a rabid wolf as a annd caught the disease, making him seem part animal, part man

"Sooo... Sirius Black from Harry Potter was a Wolf Therian? I'm confused. I heard of some human beings (mostly inuit Shaman) that turn into creatures like bears, wolves, caribou, eagels and even whales.ehh...I don't think Sirius Black was a therian.... But if you look at shamanistic transformations, I guess.. The theory that I believe in is that Therianism is the act of connecting with your primal side, your animalistic side. And I've never heard of anyone purposely drawing out their primal side with magick and it being permanent- usually the connection is made when there are a lot of therians around the person in question, or they were born with a latent connection- sometimes active or dormant. And therians don't tend to turn into the beast in question- I haven't met anybody able to do a full physical shift. Does that answer your question? 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

"I hope you'll forgive me if I contest, but therians are the exact opposite of this. They turn fully into the beast in question. Often in the tales I've read they are also slaves to their bloodthirstiness. 0 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

"I hope you'll forgive me if I contest, but therians are the exact opposite of this. They turn fully into the beast in question. You could be thinking of the Berserkers- The Scottish warriors whom let their primal side out in anger and thus giving them an advantage in combat...and yes they were very bloodthirsty. It's common for therians to be overcome by the primal side mentally- but it takes a good long while and power and focus to shift physically... Trust me, I've tried. It doesn't work. The only physical changes my pack has noticed when I'm fully mentally shifted ((which, using your common sense, would be the next step before physical shift)) is that my eyes change color, my teeth seem to change minutely ((but then again, I've always had sharper and longer canines)) and several behavioral traits. But the bloodthirstiness...I think that stems from the fact that all of the primal side doesn't just go away when you're human, it sees everything you see as well. So, if you've been wronged, or ((especially group dependent therians)) if anyone who is YOURS is hurt, the anger and absolute unwavering need to destroy the source of your problems can be...overwhelming. But it is very possible for therians to fully shift- I have heard there was a pack of wolf therians here that roam the mountains physically shifted, but I haven't seen it with my own eyes. "a werewolf has several wolflike features mixed into a human body. this therian you speak of makes a full change from human to wolf, not unlke the Animagi from HarryPotter"What myth tells tales of Man which partially turns into a wolf, or beast. It is always a full transformation. Hollywood and a few novels, created the conception of a man which turns into a human/wolf hybrid. Werewolf, simply means. man wolf, and was ascribed to the ability to transform from man to beast. Neither was transformation from man to beast, purely derived from the Greek myth, some cultures have no tales of werewolves, but of other creatures which man turns into. None of them describe partial transformation, always complete. And many carry a curse, such as, European and Greek version, which is to say. If the man, whilst a wolf, should consume the flesh of other humans, then he will remain a wolf until the end of his days. So whilst a wolf, they tended to isolate themselves, so that over time, they could return to being a man. Very few revelled in this ability, for in most cultures it was seen as a curse from the gods, nothing more. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Though this doesn't lead on to vast killings in the night such as a werewolf. Either way therians are indeed still the term for a total transformation. I would quote Uni agreeing on that as well if I could. Do you find this valuable? |
