Rebuilding society

About a couple of weeks ago(before the CIA followed me to New Zealand and confiscated my laptop)I saw a trailer for a new TV series called "Revolution".It's about a worldwide blackout(or THE blackout) that forces the human race to give up technology and rebuild society from scratch.The world leaders(presidents,dictators,government,queen/king,ect depending on where you're from)are either dead or gone(or hiding)and now the world is mainly ruled by the mafia.Yes the show has main characters and a plot but what I liked the best was the plot.Sure the concept has probably already been thought of but it still got me thinking.What would you(or I or we)do if there was some sort of war,natural disaster,aliens,random reason or unknown force that forced us to rebuild society?Would you gather your friends and family and start over or would you just cry while tightly embracing your computer until that painkiller overdose kicks in?And then what?Would you just continue life the way it is or would you try to reinvent the car,computer,gun,plane,spaceship,submarine,television,ect?And how would you try to survive?Would you become a savage that will eat whatever he or she can get his hands on or would you try to keep your morals and humanity while creating your massive empire filled with strict laws?What would you do?I might turn this into a roleplaying thread if your interested enough. Do you find this valuable?

A post apocalyptic world with scattered groups of survivors is a sandbox for the aspiring dictator, I would make my own religion or attempt to create my own communist state.

First rule of survival is this: Acquire a weapon. Hell, even a big sturdy stick works better than having only your hands to work with. Other than that, just use common sense. BTW, when it comes to food Floppeh, it's every man for themselves in No Man's Land....Lardo will either need to learn to get his own damn food or starve. Don't waste your ammo. Either way, if they die, I hear human fat makes a hell of a candle, and the flesh tastes like salty chicken (I shart you not on that). If they have some grease to 'em, they'll fry up nicely and feed you for a fortnight.
