In the frame of a parallel universe, the aspect of just a step being taken in every other universe as well as ours can even be taken to the next level. In theory there are countless numbers of alternate universes where every action we do is varied from anywhere to only slightly, to life altering. Say for instance you sneeze, in a parallel universe you don't. in another you cough, in another you belch, and so on and so forth with limitless possibilities. These, as I said before, can be minor, (sneezing), or major, (you were never born).
