Fairies

There are so many different spellings on "fairy" (faery, faerie..etc), so I was wondering, say, if the "faerie" was one type, and the "fairy" was another type...?Why are there different spellings? 4 out of 6 found this valuable. Do you?

The spellings are different, but usually refer to the same type of magical beings. The spelling, but not the meaning, changes as you look across cultures. For example, the "ai" spelling(fairy, fairies) is very American, whereas I believe the "ae" spelling(faerie, fae) is more common in eastern Europe or Wales.
