Sekhmet
The Ancient Egyptian Goddess Sekhmet (whose name is also spelled Sachmet, Sakhet, Sekmet, Sakhmet, Sekhet, and Sacmis.) was the goddess of war in Upper Egypt. But after years of war and turmoil in Lower Egypt, whose war goddess was Bast, Sekhmet became the most widely known and recognized war goddess.
Sekhmet is usually depicted as a lioness, which to the Egyptians, was the fiercest hunter and warrior. They believed that her breath created the desert and was seen as the protector of the pharaohs. Her name means "The Powerful One" and to the Egyptians she was just that, all-powerful. She was known to protect the pharaoh and his army during battle, smiting down the opponent. Her followers performed many rituals to appease her, fearing her devastatingly terrible wrath and temper.
