Hippalektryon (Hippalectryon)This is a featured page

The hippalektryon is an obscure chimerical creature from Greek Mythology, combining the front end of a horse with the back end of a chicken (rooster for males).

Although not much is known about these creatures (their mythology having been obscured by the passing of the ages), it is known that, like Pegasus combines the nature of a bird and a horse, hippalektryons combine the nature of a chicken and a horse (meaning that they are very timid and docile creatures, gentle until they are threatened), but can also be fierce and territorial when their families are threatened.

It is known, also, that they can be ridden, as there are numerous depictions in art of them being mounted, even by young boys (meaning that it doesn't require much to render them tame).
