KirttimukhaThis is a featured page

The Kirttimukha (literally translated: "The Face of Glory") is a lion-esque being that is described to have eyes of burning fire. It suffered from intense hunger, and after trying to devour Rahu, a spiritual courier, he was ordered by Lord Siva to devour his own flesh to suppress his hunger. All that was left was his own head.

His depiction is used in many different Hindu buildings, generally as a symbol of devotion (he agreed to eat himself; something a rebel would not do) or a representation of the dualism of the soul.
